NEPCA Community
News
Last
Wednesday, the Northeast Philadelphia Chinese Association (NEPCA) has helped
started two new food giveaway points in Mayfair and Oxford Circle community.
Thank to Steven Preston Director of Emergency Response of the share food
program and Anna Perng from Commissioner on the Mayor's Commission have
answered NEPCA’s please for more food giveaway sites for the Lower Northeast
immigrant community.
NEPCA is
based in Northeast Philadelphia; we focus in helping the non-English speaking
Chinese immigrants adjust to and work alongside with other Americans to build a
strong community. During this pandemic, the term "Chinese-virus" has
caused discrimination and hate crime to many innocent Asian all over the world.
Pearl Huynh, NEPCA’s president, advocates the local Chinese community to turned
fear into efforts in bringing healing. What better way than to show it by supporting
the “Food of love” national campaign!
Therefore,
NEPCA invited the Church of Grace to Fujianese and Philadelphia Chinese Chamber
of Commerce to host food giveaway sites. This is news experience for both
partners, but everyone wants to help people in this difficult time.
Both food
giveaway sites have the same distribution schedule:
Time:
Every Wednesday from 10am
Locations:
1)
Mayfair: The Church of Grace to Fujianese, 3301 Wellington Street, Philadelphia, PA 19149
2) Oxford
Circle: Empire Plaza Business Center, 6401 Castor Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19149
No
appointment, ID, or proof of income is required to receive a food box. Both
sites serve everyone in the community, not only Chinese!
On the
first distribution events on 5/20/2020 morning, thanks to volunteers Jason Lam,
Felicia Liu, Maggie Li, Jinguang Wu, and many community volunteers served at
the Empire Plaza site; and thanks to Pastor
Sam and the wonderful brothers and sisters of the Fujianese Church. Because of volunteers
efficient effort, each site had successfully give out 300 produces boxes in
less than 20 minutes. Unfortunately, many people come late were disappointed
that they did not get the food box.
Seeing
the need is high, Sam Ng and Jason Lam, the host of each sites have hope that Share
Food can allocate more food boxes in future weeks so that no one would be
turned away.
Since
these two food giveaway sites are new, the information may not yet be found on the food map public websites. Please kindly help spread the words to people who
live nearby. Thanks!
We wish
everyone with health, peace and Joy!
